I am pleased to welcome all our valued stakeholders to The Forestry Training Institute (FTI), Olmotonyi-Arusha. FTI, Olmotonyi is the oldest and only Government Institution in Tanzania under The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism which offers Forestry courses at technical level. The Institute was established in 1937 to generate technical manpower in forestry at certificate level. In late 1980s and early 1990s FTI already had a regional reputation attracting students from different African countries. These countries include Cameroun, Botswana, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Eswatini, Uganda and Zambia.
The Institute was registered in 2002 as a Technical Institution under Act No. 9 of 1997 of the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and granted provisional accreditation under the same authority in 2004. Institute
Forestry Training Institute (FTI) Olmotonyi is government owned organization under Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT) established in 1937 as a Forestry Training School. Since its establishment and particularly from the 1980s the Institute has grown in both size and quality. Its services have reached many countries in Eastern, Western, Central and Southern Africa. The Institute is registered by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) with registration number REG/ANE/007 and has been granted full accreditation in December 2005 to offer National Technical Awards (NTA).

APPLICATIONS
The Institute welcomes and considers applications for all its programmes from both private candidates and sponsoring agencies. The applicants who should first ensure that they meet the minimum requirements are required to submit, among others, copies of academic transcripts and evidence of ability to pay the required fees. Deadlines for applications are 30th April for both Tanzanians and international applicants. Read More…

LIBRARY
PRINTED AND ELECTRONIC SOURCE OF INFORMATION
The purpose of the Institute Library is to support the academic activities, namely, teaching, consultancy and research. Although the library is mainly for institute staff and students, the facility also supports visitors to the Institute including Sokoine University of Agriculture. . The library has both printed and electronic source of information. Staff and students are free to access them. The collection comprises of XXXXXX books and Journals. SHORT COURSES
REFRESHER AND OTHER COURSES
Besides the long training programmes, the Institute is mandated to offer refresher and other short training programmes. Some of these are organized and advertised by the Institute while other are made to address specific client needs. The duration ranges from two weeks to three months. Refresher courses are organized for field staff to update them in selected fields. The smallest class recommended class size is five candidates. These courses may be offered both at the Institute and at client’s place. The costs of these courses are negotiable.

The Institute offers three programs under the National Technical Award (NTA) system accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) of Tanzania.
